EMDR Level 1 Training

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is, perhaps, the most exciting psychotherapeutic development in the past twenty-five years. Research has repeatedly shown its effectiveness in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other psychological disorders.

About the event

This first part of the basic EMDR training will begin Thursday evening, September 26, 5:00 –8:30 pm, and continue all day Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28, 9 am – 5:30pm.

Participants (who must be licensed mental health professionals or in a program leading to licensure) will learn about:

  • The history of EMDR
  • The strengths and weaknesses of the current research
  • The eight phase treatment model needed to effectively implement EMDR
  • How to select which clients are appropriate for EMDR and which are not
  • How to weave EMDR into one's existing therapeutic practice

This is an experiential workshop combining lecture, demonstration, and practice. Participants will spend approximately 35% of their time in small groups experiencing EMDR as a client and implementing it as a clinician. After some experience using parts of EMDR, the second part of the training and ten hours of group consultation (needed to complete the basic training in EMDR) deepens the participant's EMDR skills, teaches effective ways of implementing EMDR with more difficult clients, and offers opportunities to expand the use of EMDR into a wide variety of clinical areas.
